208 Building

Portland, Oregon

Originally built in 1895, the 208 Building in Portland’s Old Town received a thoughtful renovation led by SUM, focused on seismic upgrades and a full transformation of the dimly lit lobby and public spaces.

With approvals from the City of Portland, Historic Resource Review, and Restore Oregon, the team reinforced the building’s structure, tying floor framing to exterior walls and installing a new steel brace at the street-facing façade. Exterior canopy updates, new ADA restrooms, bike storage, a reconfigured stair, and improved lighting brought new life and functionality to the first floor and basement.

Concrete, steel, and updated finishes complement the historic wood-frame structure, creating a durable, modernized lobby that honors the building’s past while preparing it for a new generation of Portlanders.
