SUM Design Studio + architecture

After an extensive search for a new home for its growing team, SUM found a diamond in the rough on SE 12th and Pine, an ideally located midcentury office building in the heart of SE Portland.

Though time had taken its toll, the structure’s character offered strong potential. SUM’s redesign honors the building’s original spirit, enhancing its best features with modern touches like a folded metal canopy and charred shou sugi ban siding.

Updated landscaping and a new corner window activate the street, revealing the interior’s renewed energy and connection to the neighborhood.
